POWER is a proud member of the Faith in Action (Formerly PICO) and Partnership for Working Families Networks.
During this pandemic, we will not gather publicly but will continue our work through online meetings and actions. We encourage everyone to remain at home and practice social distancing. We must all do our part to protect public health. If you’re feeling alone, consider watching our Multi-Faith Service for Faith Healing and Action in our Times – your community is here for you! In the meantime, our work continues in the hopes that during the next outbreak our communities have ALL of their needs met.
COVID-19 Response and Resources
Our people are hurting in this global pandemic, and it’s time that we came together to form a plan for action. Check out upcoming meetings, press releases, services, and other resources here.
Building Communities of Opportunity that Work for All
POWER works with faith communities in Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania to address local and statewide issues while simultaneously strengthening the life of our congregations. Our path to creating a more just world involves teaching people of faith how to build and exercise their own power to address root cause of the daily injustices they face.
At the center of our faith-based community organizing efforts is the belief in potential transformation – of people, institutions, and our larger culture. This belief stems directly from the shared principles of our faith communities and influences the way our leaders relate to public officials, to community members, and to one another. Lifting Up a Moral Voice with Political Muscle
POWER is non-partisan and is not aligned with any political party. We do not endorse or support candidates for office. We focus on issues that directly affect the quality of life in our communities such as education, economic justice, criminal justice reform, and health care. At a time when there is widespread concern about declining civic participation, community organizing offers a powerful tool to connect people to one another and to the institutions that influence their lives.
We help equip community leaders with the skills needed to reach out into their neighborhoods, identify common concerns, research possible solutions, and work with public officials and private businesses to put those solutions into effect. Through our issue-based campaigns listed below, leaders learn how to build and sustain strong teams and networks, research and analyze community issues, develop campaign strategy, and work with elected officials to implement changes in public policy.
