We are saddened by the tragic events of yesterday – the shooting at Utah Valley University that took the life of Charlie Kirk, a commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, and the shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado that left students critically injured.
Violence in any form is wrong, and is a severe sickness, indicative of a deeper pathology in our nation that must be addressed. These acts are not isolated; they reflect the brokenness of our culture, our politics, and our care for one another.
Our prayers are with the families who are mourning and with the young people and loved ones in Colorado who are suffering. But prayer alone is not enough. We must also act.
Together – across faiths, political divides, and communities – we must build a country where differences are not settled with bullets and where our children can learn without fear.
We call on all people of goodwill to reject violence, stand firm against hatred, and commit to the hard, necessary work of healing and justice. Our nation is hurting, but we cannot allow despair to rule us. Now is the time to choose compassion, courage, and our shared humanity.
