Dear Members of the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation:
POWER Interfaith is a statewide, multiracial, interfaith network representing more than 4,700 Pennsylvanians of faith and moral courage. Our mission is to put faith into action by building communities of justice, equity, and dignity for all. We see firsthand how policy decisions in Washington ripple through our neighborhoods, congregations, and families.
We are writing to urge you to take decisive action to repair the most harmful consequences of the recent tax bill. The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” slashed tax credits for insurers, triggering massive increases in insurance premiums. More than 20 million Americans – including countless Pennsylvanians – are affected. Working- and middle-class families simply cannot bear these increases, especially during a government shutdown that is already straining households and local economies.
Cuts to Medicaid are also destabilizing the healthcare system, threatening hospitals and clinics across our state. The ripple effects endanger children, seniors, people with disabilities, and rural communities alike. And the damage goes beyond healthcare: underfunding in SNAP, special education, and housing programs is tearing at the fabric of our communities.
Congress has a rare opportunity in this budget debate to correct these harms. As people of faith, we urge you to act with conscience and protect the people you represent. No member of Congress should vote for a budget that forces American families to pay more for healthcare while essential supports are cut away.
Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Gregory Edwards
Executive Director
POWER Interfaith
