Description:

The Director of Civic Engagement will play a key role in advancing and advocating for equality, justice, and empowerment for marginalized communities. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage congregations and communities, promote civic participation, and advance public policy initiatives in alignment with the organization’s mission. The Political Director will work closely with the Executive Director and other members of senior management to build relationships with elected officials, community organizations, and others to advance social justice efforts and drive systemic change.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead, direct and help coordinate all aspects of the organization’s C3 and C4 civic engagement work initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive civic engagement strategy to build awareness, mobilize support, and drive action on issues related to social justice and equality.
  • Build relationships with elected officials and community leaders to advocate for policy changes and amplify the voices of marginalized communities.
  • Organize events, campaigns, and initiatives to promote voter education, registration and turnout among underserved populations.
  • Collaborate with other key staff members and partner organizations to integrate civic engagement efforts to broader advocacy campaigns and initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant legislative and policy developments at the local and state levels and develop strategies for influencing decision-making processes.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to volunteers.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct 15-20 one-on-one meetings each week with new or established POWER leaders, clergy, and community members on a consistent and regular basis
  • Prepare written weekly reports on progress and outcomes of work.
  • Develop organizing teams within congregations
  • Use databases to record work
  • Provide regular organizing training for POWER leaders and community members in the principles and strategies of congregation-based community organizing
  • Support POWER congregational teams in outreach, research, and strategic planning leading to large community action meetings that impact systemic change
  • Attend professional development sessions
  • Meet on a regular basis with supervisor to shadow, plan and evaluate work progress

Description: POWER’s Data Specialist plays a central role in empowering organizers with voter engagement and membership data, strengthening our relationship with partners, and leading strategic data initiatives that enhance our organizing impact. This individual will help departments tell their collective stories through data, provide metrics that measure impact, and assist them with their overall needs. The Data Specialist will work closely with the Data Manager, and internal and external partners to advance social justice efforts and drive systemic change. This position is ideal for someone who takes an interest in the “nitty-gritty” of data and has an interest in working at a progressive organization.

This is a permanent, full-time bargaining unit position that reports to the Data Manager.



Essential Functions: 

  • Responsible for collecting, organizing, and storing company data.
  • Develop and implement data management procedures/trainings to ensure adequate, legitimate, and accurate data
  • Coordination of data with department heads to support their activities
  • Presenting data findings in a clear and compelling manner through reports, dashboards, and visualizations
  • Provide informative reports and updates to the Operations team and larger staff community.
  • Collecting and organizing voter registration data to create comprehensive voter lists for targeted outreach and engagement efforts
  • Creating lists of community members interested in specific issues or causes relevant to the organization’s mission to identify supporters and mobilize them for actions.         
  • Implement regular training for POWER staff, leaders and community members on how data impacts organizing work. 
  • Maintain compliance with FCC, 10DLC, and TCPA Compliance Guidelines as well as State Voices, America Votes and POWER best practices in the use of all tools and data
  • Supporting in the administration of POWERs EveryAction and VAN instances; responds to data requests from staff quickly and efficiently

Core Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse leaders. 
  • Experience with EveryAction/NGPVAN or other civic engagement or voter contact tools such as Empower, Scale2Win, GetThru
  • Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Commitment to the organization’s value and mission statement
  • Proficiency in SQL, R, Python and an understanding of BigQuery preferred but not immediately required 
  • At least 1-3 years of experience working in a technical capacity supporting progressive organizations OR 2 cycles of data analysis/strategy experience
