
Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW)’s pipe replacement plan is like repairing a sinking ship with duct tape. We need to build a new vessel. PGW’s pipeline network is a relic of the 19th century with inevitable leaks of methane. Combusting methane poisons indoor air, disproportionately harming low-income families and communities of color. POWER recommends PGW use a “triage and transition “ approach to the path to geothermal energy. While the current pipeline structure is harmful to black and brown communities, there are solutions.
