On Wednesday, May 15, more than 70 residents from Pottstown, Pottsgrove, and surrounding areas gathered at the TriCounty Active Adult Center for a crucial town hall meeting on taxes and fair funding for Pottstown public schools. Sponsored by POWER Interfaith, the event featured passionate discussions led by organizers Blessing Osazuwa and Marlene Armato, along with a guest panel of speakers including State Representatives Job Ciresi and Paul Friel.
Speakers highlighted the severe underfunding of Pottstown schools—$3,986.00 per student, totaling a $13,479,134.00 annual shortfall—and its impact on property values, local businesses, and community well-being. Attendees shared personal stories, emphasizing the urgent need for legislative action.
The event concluded with a strong call to action. Community members were urged to engage in advocacy efforts to demand fair funding for Pottstown schools, by completing postcards to be sent to state legislators.
Efforts to bring about fair funding for ALL public schools are a part of POWER Interfaith’s Roadmap for Justice, the organization’s platform for a prosperous, equitable Pennsylvania.
