A Call for Peace, Understanding, and Unity

Dear POWER Interfaith Family,

I write to you today with a heavy heart.

As many of you may have heard, a devastating act of violence took place outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. earlier this week. Two young members of the Israeli embassy staff—Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim—were senselessly shot and killed. Their lives, dedicated to the service of peace and diplomacy, were stolen by hatred.

We mourn with their families, with the Jewish community, and with all who are shaken by this tragedy.

Let me be clear: violence—especially when fueled by antisemitism and political extremism—has no place in our communities. Not now. Not ever. These acts are not just attacks on individuals; they are attacks on our shared humanity.

In moments like these, it is our moral duty to stand firm in our values. As people of faith, we are called to be peacemakers. To listen. To seek understanding. To reject hate. And to work tirelessly for a world where everyone can live without fear.

Let us honor Yaron and Sarah by recommitting ourselves to this work—not only in our words, but in our actions.

May their memories be a blessing. And may we move forward together, with courage and compassion, toward the just and loving world we know is possible.

With peace and resolve,

Rev. Dr. Gregory Edwards
