We at POWER Interfaith stand in solidarity with our Jewish siblings at Congregation Mikveh Israel in the face of the abhorrent acts of antisemitism that took place on October 22, 2024, and over the past several months. The desecration of a sacred space, the arson, and the hateful vandalism are attacks not only on the Jewish community but on all people of faith and conscience. These acts of violence are a direct affront to the values of unity, peace, and mutual respect that we hold so dear.
Congregation Mikveh Israel, a historic pillar of faith that has been a part of our country since before its founding, represents the resilience, strength, and enduring contributions of the Jewish community to our shared American story. We condemn these vile acts in the strongest terms and call on all Philadelphians — of every faith tradition and background — to come together in a spirit of unity and understanding.
Hatred in any form, including antisemitism, has no place in our city, in our nation, or in our world. We must rise above this violence and bigotry, standing united in our common commitment to justice, dignity, and respect for all. As people of diverse faiths, we believe that an attack on one community is an attack on us all. We are called to protect one another and build bridges of understanding, especially in times of adversity.
We urge public officials, community leaders, and people of goodwill to condemn this violence and to work together to foster an environment where love overcomes hate and peace is stronger than fear. We are confident that justice will be served, and we pray for healing, strength, and resilience for the members of Congregation Mikveh Israel and the Jewish community as a whole.
In solidarity and peace,
