POWER’s Climate Justice and Jobs team had a sweet victory for democracy and climate justice. The Gas Commission had proposed a regulation to ban POWER (specifically) and all other community groups from meaningful engagement with PGW budgets. Our team organized dozens of PGW rate-payers to attend the meeting, 12 to testify and ten out of 17 City Council members to join us in opposing the regulation. We told inspiring stories about the urgent need for rapid transition to affordable, renewable energy and the importance of community input to ensure equity and zero-emissions energy.
We succeeded in defeating the undemocratic regulation! As we know, first they ignore us, then they laugh at us, then they fight us and then we win!
