At 5 schools in the neighborhood of their religious congregations, POWER volunteers registered voters the first day of school for the School District of Philadelphia and talked to parents about the impact of education cuts on their families.Volunteers at First Day of School

The voter registration drive is the first event in a season of voter engagement work by POWER members to educate communities of color and people of faith of all backgrounds about the need for a new system for funding public education in PA, and to encourage them to vote in the upcoming gubernatorial and legislative races in November.  Volunteers collected signed by voters indicating that they care about a Full, Fair Funding Formula, which POWER will send to legislators and the Governor’s office following the results of November’s election.

Thanks to all our volunteers, and good luck on the first day of school to parents, teachers, and students!
