RGGI Day of Action

October 8, 2021

Join POWER in a day of action to push our state legislators to listen to the Pennsylvania voters who overwhelmingly support the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).

What is RGGI and why should you care?

RGGI is a multi-state cap and invest program that will lower carbon emissions from power plants, while producing an estimated $300 million in revenue to be invested in communities for a just transition. For more information, watch this short video.

Governor Wolf, with the Department of Environmental Protection, is committed to moving forward on RGGI, but legislators in the grip of the fossil fuel industry are working against this effort through disapproval motions and legislation in the State Assembly.

POWER is organizing and fighting for equity measures to be included in RGGI and for investment to go to environmental justice communities that are predominantly low-income, Black, Brown, and Indigenous. It is important for our legislators to hear their constituents’ voices in strong support of RGGI and of equity features in its practice. Right now we need all voices across the state!

Join POWER in a day of action to deliver our message of support for RGGI on Friday, Oct. 8. Go to your State Reps’ closest district offices and drop off our message, talk to the office about our stance, or call them. Do this at any time of the day and take a photo of your action to send to our Communication Team  (ssingleton@powerinterfaith.org) so we can document and archive our collective action through social media.

Please register for this action so we know who is joining us and how we can get you the materials you need for this day of action. It is the moral duty of our legislators to uphold our state constitution and listen to the voters. They must: protect our right to clean air; address the harm caused by pollution; and invest in our communities on the frontlines.

RGGI is the way forward.
