Congregation Mishkan Shalom, a progressive, activist synagogue in Northwest Philadelphia, welcomes the community to a “POWER Shabbat Service” on Saturday, March 20, 10:00 a.m. Pastor Nicholas O’Rourke, former Working Family Party’s candidate for Philadelphia City Council, will join Mishkan members to lead the service with Rabbi Shawn Zevit.
Bishop Dwayne Royster, Executive Director of POWER, a coalition of more than 100 state-wide diverse faith communities committed to ensuring social, economic and racial justice for all Philadelphians, will discuss current and future campaigns. A Philadelphia native, Bishop Royster is the Senior Pastor of Faith United Church of Christ in Washington, D.C. He also serves as the National Political Director of Faith in Action.
During the service, Mishkan Shalom congregants will discuss what calls them to participate in POWER Philadelphia initiatives that end inequities and promote positive societal change.
